  Great thread TastingFreedom. This is exactly what needs to be read by people who have recently left the mental prison of the Watchtower Society.

  Notice the attempt at thread hijack by Alice, completely changing the subject to Muslims. Am I the only one who thinks Alice will eventually wake up if she keeps reading threads such as this one? I have hope for you Alice. There is a very good reason why the Governing Body doesn't want JW's having open discussions where they are free to voice thoughts that might not agree with their doctrine or practices.

  a bit before my time , but hopefully of interest to some.

  the food service brings back memories of the 70's & 80's before it was "simplified" by the wtbts.. it would seem that the 60's & early 70's were very much a golden era for the society , before the 1975 debacle.

  Does anyone have a idea why the Watchtower Society used to hold conventions for so long. Eight days, are you kidding me? How likely was it that everyone could get eight days off of work. What do you think was the motivation from the Watchtower Society to hold these long conventions?

  The Book of Revelation is pure nonsense. Do you have any idea how many nutjobs have predicted the end of the world? When will people wake up? There is no angry man in the sky who is going to come down here and open up a can of whoop-ass. You can take your end of the world prophecies and doom and gloom and stick it were the sun don't shine. The mentality of religious people seriously scares me sometimes.

  we are already going on a year and a half, and thank god i have not been converted yet.

  You deserve a medal for studying with JW's so long. You must have a high tolerance for B.S.

  You said that you are going to end the study. I think before you stop it would be a good idea to start asking some hard questions from the JW's. If you want some good questions I'm sure many here could help you out. My first question to the JW's would be "Do you have any family or children you're shunning because they left your religion?" Don't let them avoid this question. They might lie to you at first. If they say yes they are shunning family stay on the subject. Get them to explain as much as possible. They have been surrounded by people who have encouraged this type of behavior. Their moral judgment has most likely been compromised by the organization they're in. Encourage them to reach out and contact the people they are shunning, tell them it's the right thing to do. Don't be surprised if they react in an unusual manner.

  if this is true, what would the watchtower org.

  guns, explosives, apostate literature, recorders, who knows, but if this is taking place, the watchtower org.

  from what i know the wt from sunday had something to do with christ (just read title of blondies comments.

  This would be called covering all your bases. If someone leaves the cult and is unhappy, on drugs, promiscuous, etc. it's proof that the world is a evil place. It's proof of what happens when you leave the protection of God's organization.

  If someone leaves the cult and is happy and succesful, well it's because of the trickery of Satan.

  I always let JW's know I'm doing great, never been better. Don't play their shame game. Hold your head up high and refuse to allow them to look down on someone who is no longer in the "Truth". There is no way I will let a brainwashed moron think they're better than me.

  Someone already mentioned it and I'll second it. "The Village". Great movie and you will see some similarities with the JW's. Don't read any reviews on it, you don't want to hear any spoilers before you watch it.

  Cult behavior 101. Claim that the leaders of the group speak for God and to question the leaders is equal to questioning God. Then let the abuse of power and corruption began. And the drones just accept everything they're told without question. Because questioning would equal a lack of faith in God. "Don't rely on your own understanding".

  I really hope that the tightening of control from the Governing Body will actually have the opposite effect and cause some JW's to wake up to the fact that it's a cult.
